Rain this morning was unexpected, although it came according to predictions.
In the same way, I can’t decide if it’s cold or warm or neither.
So I just attend to my poems, in between errands, an appointment or two. On my lap the cat snores. Window panes rattle with vigorous traffic.
Word arrives requesting chants for one of the elders in our White Plum lineage, Daido Loori Roshi, who is near death, which in this deadline world always comes according to predictions, but is unexpected all the same.

i chanted Enmei Juku this morning for Daido here on Vashon Island, WA, with Dana, Wild Flower, and all the sanghas endlessly connected.
Missing you, but also feel with you.
In Portuguese…
Louvor a Buda

Every translation, like every word, is approximate. And thus beautiful and open. Just chanting is really best, although here’s yet another translation:
KANZEON! At one with the Buddha
Related to all Buddhas in cause & effect.
And to Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.
Joyful, pure, eternal being!
Morning mind is Kanzeon
Evening mind is Kanzeon
This very moment arises from Mind
This very moment is not separate from mind.
We chanted this morning.. Willem and Myriam. Merci Sensei, see u saturday..DV
Kanzeon!
Veneration to the Buddha!
With Buddha I have origin;
With Buddha I have affinity;
Affinity with Buddha, Dharma, Sangha;
Constancy, joy, self, and purity.
Mornings, my thought is Kanzeon;
Evenings, my thought is Kanzeon.
Thought after thought arises in mind.
Thought after thought is not separate from mind.
translation by Robert Aiteken
or…
Kanzeon! Salutation and devotion to the Buddha!
We are one with the Buddha
In cause and effect related to all Buddhas and to Buddha Dharma and Sangha.
Our true nature is
Eternal, Joyous, Selfless and Pure.
So let us chant every mornong Kanzeon with Nen (attention)
Every evening Kanzeon with Nen!
Nen Nen arises from Mind
Nen Nen is not separate from Mind.
translation by Philip Yampolsky

KAN ZE ON NA MU BUTSU YO BUTSU U IN YO BUTSU U EN BU PO SO EN JO RAKU GA JO CHO NEN KAN ZE ON BO NEN KAN ZE ON NEN NEN JU SHIN KI NEN NEN FU RI SHIN
What does it mean – this chant!
what does it mean – this chant?
Yes, wonderful idea. (We just did a ceremony for him after our Monday night sitting.)
Everyone everywhere can also chant for him. Here is the chant, called the ENMEI JUKKU KANNON GYO. You can sing it nine times, and in so doing, dedicate its merits to the peace of the world, the well-being of your loved ones, anyone else you would like to include and in particular to John Daido Loori Roshi:
KAN ZE ON NA MU BUTSU YO BUTSU U IN YO BUTSU U EN BU PO SO EN JO RAKU GA JO CHO NEN KAN ZE ON BO NEN KAN ZE ON NEN NEN JU SHIN KI NEN NEN FU RI SHIN
Want also to chant for Daidi Loori Roshi… What should I say/chant?
