The all-pervading triptych

Three fundamentals of meditation, which correspond to Joyce’s three points concerning appreciation of a work of art (see « Beholding » entry below) and also three points of a triangle, and an egg, for that matter:

– Do not centralize your attention inward, do not cling to or identify with thoughts, sensations, perceptions.
– Do not seek to become above, beyond, outside, elsewhere.
– Do not move from the ever-moving here and now, simply « identify » with the ever-changing present moment.

***

A triangle has two opposing bases, for example inside and outside, and a transcendent or integrated apex, insideoutside.

***

An egg has an opposing yolk and white, and an all-encompassing shell. In Ulysses, Bloom would be the yolk, Stephen the white and Molly the shell.

***

Having tried materialism and asceticism, upon awakening the Buddha realized the middle way.

I think we cannot ‘create/control’ Full Presence.
But we can exercise awareness/mindfulness (meditation) and surrender (koan) so the door is open for Presence/ Be-ing.

"Do not centralize your attention inward, do not cling to or identify with thoughts, sensations, perceptions."…is this NO-CONTROL?…

"Do not seek to become above, beyond, outside, elsewhere.Do not move from the ever-moving here and now, simply "identify" with the ever-changing present moment."…is this SURRENDER?…

Does this SURRENDER require some atitude beyond itself? Does it bloom out of cultivating some kind of NOT-KNOWINGNESS?
