Befriending heat and rain

After another hot day, a storm appears to be brewing.
I sit down for a moment with that.
Just that: accumulated heat and impending rain.
I rest in it, « befriend » it as someone said to me the other night in response to the question, « How do you make peace? »

I read earlier someone’s « Dharma Dare, » a vow she made to herself to sit two hours everyday this month.
Imagine that: Sitting is a daring activity!
Befriend it!

Now: A cool, gentle rain has begun falling to earth with the grace of things as they are.
I sit down for a moment with that, and without it.
Now: Night moves on, wet leaves in the street.
