Hotei’s bag

The wild and wandering Zen master Hotei was confronted in a marketplace by another Zen master, who asked him to present his understanding of the Zen teachings.
Hotei put down his bag.
The other master then asked him to present the practice of Zen.
Hotei picked up his bag and continued on his way.

To define freedom is to create a prison cell.
The job of a teacher is not to create prison cells for her students but to tear them down.
So in a sense she can not give them anything at all.
She can not show them a path or deliver a solution.

The Truth, is it sweet or bitter?

Maybe we can have a fruitful discussion about grapes and pears?
