« What I’ve been trying to do all my life can’t be done. I want to copy reality exactly as I see it. Impossible, of course, because what you see continually changes in time and space, non? You would need absolute knowledge, and who can attain that, hein? Nobody. Only an imbecile would persist, non? »
Alberto Giacometti (1965)

I love home, but also loving family. I no longer decadent life http://www.montresreplica.com and anxiety. With a positive and optimistic mind, I encourage myself,
Giacometti also said, "I sculpt because I am curious to see how I fail."
‘You shall not judge…’
This week on a dark and windy evening I walked home (slightly drunk, but that has nothing to do with it).
Suddenly I felt branches and thorns, my head was bleeding, my coat was torn.
When the next day I returned I saw the rose-bush hanging over the pavement.
I rang the doorbell. Thought I’d complain about the thorns at eyelevel; thought I’d demand a new coat.
She’s a French lady (how did she get here?) she makes big bronze naked woman for a living; she’s all kindness and concern. Off course she’ll pay the coat repair and immediately cut the roses.
Come back for a cup of coffee, she says, bring your wife, any children?
Yes and a lovely grandson.
Bring him too, bring them all!
Here’s a book, take it; it’s about my work, my life.
Here name is Maïté Duval; in every village around here you’ll find one of her bronzes.
Never paid much attention to them; stupid of me.
These are just the words of Giacometti.
In a video, for ex. ‘Alberto Giacometti, un homme parmi les hommes’ it is interesting to see/hear also the way he talks, his attitude, bodylanguage…
"Only with our hart we can see things exactly/right; what is essential is not visibel for the eye"
from – le Petit Prince -by the famous french bouddhist?/mystic Antoine de Saint Exupéry.
Why?
‘ we sculpt to prove our existence – to prove the vastness; constistency of our existence ?’
At 15 years old – seeing the work of Giacometti changed my life.
" the image of existence in space/ in the void."
therefor he is so essential : he integrated foreground and background on the same level.
When you hear his words you would think about a vipassana proces. When you see the work you would think about a koan process. I guess he was working on the point where both become one.
I live because I am curious to see how I die
I am locked because I am curious to see how I am free
I sit because I am curious to see how I move
Giacometti also said, "I sculpt because I am curious to see how I fail."
I try and I fail. I try again and I fail. I try one more time and still I fail. I continue trying…
